“Shanti”, this painting shows a young woman holding a Buddha head in a serene attitude, representing peace, calm and harmony both internally and externally. The vertical composition and the golden halo surrounding the young woman’s head add an idea of transcendence and connects her with Shanti or divine peace.
“Shanti” in Sanskrit means “peace”, both in the sense of inner tranquility and external harmony. It is a key term in Eastern spiritual philosophies such as Hinduism and Buddhism, where inner peace is a desired state that arises from meditation, balance and a deep understanding of life.
This work combines elements of different artistic styles and spiritual traditions. There is a explicit homage to classical Renaissance aesthetics, but also a fusion with Eastern spiritual symbology such as Byzantine painting or Japanese Rinpa. The artwork has a timeless and mystical character, being at the same time decorative and profound in its symbolism.
