In a mixture of Art Nouveau and Suprematism, this piece depicts the legend of the origin of the Japanese tea ceremony at Mount Fuji. According to Japanese legend, there was once a samurai who climbed to the top of Mount Fuji to pray for enlightenment. As he was meditating, a fierce blizzard descended upon the mountain, and the samurai was about to succumb to the cold and exhaustion. Suddenly, a vision of a goddess appeared before him, and she instructed him to cut off his own eyelids and toss them into the snow. The samurai obeyed, and two tea bushes sprouted from the spot where he had thrown his eyelids. The samurai then used the tea leaves to brew a hot drink that kept him awake and gave him renewed strength, allowing him to make it safely down the mountain.
