APART is created in response to the Chile mining incident in 2010. The title refers to the rupture in the ground, the miners' separation from their loved ones, and the uncertainty of the victims' fate. The layered complexity of the situation is distilled and abstracted in the painting. Its composition and tonal contrast are based on a paper structure that is being unfolded, twisted and stretched, symbolising the ideas of displacement and connection.
