Cata was born in Havana, Cuba on April 3, 1947. He graduated from San Alejandro School of Plastic Arts in Havana in 1972. He served as Artistic Director of the Lenin Park in Havana where he taught in the pottery studio and gallery \"Amelia Pelaez\" of this school. He also served as Director and Professor of the group \"Landscape versions,\" sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of Cuba. He taught at the San Alejandro School of Art in the painting department and conducted art workshops for children in the National Library of Cuba. It was the exclusive artist promotion company for foreign artists ARTEX SA in Havana. In his work you can appreciate a Creole Baroque style primarily using the oil technique. He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Cuba and abroad. His first prize for painting was received in the Provincial Juvenile Hall in 1975. Cata has designed numerous posters who have represented his country in international events, and some of his works have been selected to commemorate significant dates and highlight relevant facts. Among the numerous awards he has earned for his plastic work are: first prize in poster competition at the UNESCO in 1974 in Paris, France and the Order of 1300 Anniversary of Bulgarian Culture in 1984.
