Every year we go through the catalogue to point out the artists who best combine their work, their track record and the road still ahead. This is the 2014 selection: original work by living artists, within reach of anyone starting a collection.
Marco Ortolan
Getting close to the countries immortalized in the paintings by this artist can equal the most extraordinary of the adventures. Set out firstly on his boundless imagination and encoded immediately by numbered visions, Venice and motherhood, as well as expressive photographs and bewitching nudes, find a prevailing position among his work.
Carlos Villabon
Carlos Villabon has opted for the figurative style, the curves, the textures…a style in which his oil landscapes and strong and intense coloured artworks outstand. His artworks are oil on canvas, where he uses textures that simulate rustic areas, or acrylic on canvas, where he uses his characteristic curved strokes. From 1991 to these days, he has painted more than 250 works of art. Some of his main works are in art collections in Australia, Belgium Brazil, North America, Colombia and Spain.

The best definition for his current work may be impressionism with abstract tinges. His paintings transmit a special light, immersed in a rainy atmosphere. Additionally, the movement and density of his palette, as well as the chromatic intensity of the neutral tonalities with traces of other chromatic schemes to outstand some part of the composition, are other essential characteristics of his work. Regarding light, it can be perceived that there’s an interest in showing scenes where luminosity prevails over the chiaroscuro. The main theme is the landscape, urban and rural. Sights from different spots in Normandy, Paris, Cadaqués, Barcelona, Venice, Amsterdam or El Empordà are recurrent in his oils and watercolours, the most used techniques by this artist.
Carlos Garijo Martinez
Carlos Garijo is a young artist with a very personal style for which no one is left indifferent. His works captivate the audience with fully detailed scenes that attract the spectator to the action inside. He is the winner of several prizes and a brush to keep in our minds.
VĂctor Manuel Allende MartĂnez
It is thanks to his works that we can travel to his natal Cuba without moving. One painting by this artist is a window to the Cuban delight and colours, to its cultures and to the everyday scenes of a country perfectly portrayed in these canvases. He has been awarded with the CPAP and ACAA prizes in the Salón de paisaje Leopoldo Romañach in its XI and XII editions.
David Agenjo
David Agenjo is a renowned artist in London and has been exhibited in several occasions in New York, London, Dublin and Madrid. His work has been defined as modern impressionism. His palette is refreshing and in his paintings, he creates a distance between the subject and the spectator which results in an act of almost voyeurism.
Nadia Martina Michelin
Nadia Martina Michelin’s paintings are born intuitively and where the limits between fantasy and reality fade. They give space to a magical destination of emotions and characters. Nadia was born in 1881 in Buenos Aires (Argentina) and lives and works in Italy. Her works have been exhibited for many years in Argentina and European galleries in Germany and France.
Pilar López Báez
Pilar López Báez studied History of Art and Beaux Arts. Her career has grown inside and outside her country, her works have been exhibited in several occasions and she has participated in art contests as the “VII biennial of Young Art of Vila Verde” in Portugal. She was the winner of the “II Biennial of painting: Cromática II” of the Fundación Cum Laude and recipient of creation grants inside and outside the country. Her painting brings us blurry scenes, where realism and abstraction converse while look into memory and identity, life and death.
