El 9 de marzo de 1522 fue bautizado en la Iglesia Nuestra Señora de las Nieves de Alanís, el ilustre Beneficiado de la Catedral de Tunja (Boyacá - Colombia) y cronista de Indias don Juan de Castellanos. Considerado como el padre de la poesía en al menos ocho países de iberoamérica, fue el autor del poema más extenso escrito en lengua castellana: "Las Elegías de Barones Ilustres en Indias" con más de 113.000 versos. Este asiento bautismal se halla en el Libro I de Bautismo de la parroquia de Alanís (Sevilla) España.
