Si hubo un pueblo que hizo temblar a los Incas en pleno proceso de expanción imperial, esos fueron los chankas. Se dice que los nacidos del choclococha, fue un pueblo guerrero muy sanguinarios al momento de la batalla, aplicaban castigos despediados a sus rivales, como el desollamiento o elaborar copas con los craneos de las victimas como una forma de imponer respeto, de que no debían meterse con ellos. Al momento de batallar, estos vestían con pieles de Puma o león andino, al cual adoraban y consideraban que su fuerza y poder bravio procedía de este animal, a esto sumado con plumas de condor y collares hechos con orejas y dientes de sus victimas. De alguna manera sabían combinar la guerra con la religion, pues solían llevar puestos algun resto (craneo) de sus familiares muertos como tambien otros objetos que en su anterior vida guerrera utilizaba, herramientas de combate, piel de puma o craneos de este felino, entre otros; buscando transmitir presencia, imponencia e intimidación a sus enemigos
