El Guerrero Jaguar mexica, llamado ocēlōpilli en la lengua náhuatl, era el miembro del ejército mexica que servía en el mismo como soldado profesional dentro de las fuerzas del mismo imperio. Una de sus particularidades reside en que todos los guerreros jaguar pertenecían a la clase baja, los mācēhualtin,1 a diferencia de lo que ocurría con sus compañeros, los guerreros águila (cuāuhpilli), que pertenecían a la nobleza.
Estos dos tótems se solían usar debido a la creencia que las águilas y jaguares representaban respectivamente la luz y la oscuridad en la mitología mexica.

The Mexica Jaguar Warrior, called ocēlōpilli in the Nahuatl language, was the member of the Mexica army who served as a professional soldier within the forces of the same empire. One of its peculiarities is that all the jaguar warriors belonged to the lower class, the mācēhualtin,1 unlike what happened with their companions, the eagle warriors (cuāuhpilli), who belonged to the nobility.
These two totems were often used due to the belief that eagles and jaguars respectively represented light and darkness in Mexica mythology.
