A collection that highlights the symbolism of human connection through the use of minimalism, geometry, and the management of empty space to convey a deep emotional message. By using the simplicity of elements, it transmits a profound sense of isolation and reflection.
In this piece, titled "Discrimination," I aimed to capture the silent pain that stems from exclusion. I use chairs, as in other works of mine, but this time their arrangement is key: a compact, closed group contrasts with a single chair isolated to one side. That chair, distanced from the circle, symbolizes those who have been marginalized, rejected, or simply not accepted. The emptiness surrounding it is not just a physical space; it’s a metaphor for the emotional void felt by those who experience discrimination.
By playing with light and shadow, I sought to create an atmosphere that intensified the feeling of distance. The long shadows of the chairs in the group seem to connect them, while the solitary chair is trapped in its own darkness, disconnected from the rest.
The piece encourages reflection on the times one has been on either side, and how exclusion, though sometimes subtle, can have a profound and lasting impact.
