Between Chains, I aimed to represent a sense of limitation and restriction while simultaneously leaving open the possibility for contemplation and hope. The suspended heads, with a metallic blue sheen, symbolize the mind trapped between golden chains, a metaphor for the barriers we often face in life, whether self-imposed or external.
Each face reflects serenity, but also a touch of melancholy. I wanted the expressions to invite introspection, as if each figure were in a state of deep reflection, trapped yet still aware. The golden chains represent not only oppression but also something valuable, perhaps the idea that our limitations can have a purpose or hidden meaning.
The contrast between the cold heads and the red vines emerging from the ground was intentional. The reddish plants symbolize life and struggle, adding a touch of warmth amidst what appears to be a scene of control. It’s a visual battle between what restricts and what grows, between the cold and the warm, between the mind and the body.
In the background, the sky gently tinted with pink and purple represents hope or change. I wanted the horizon to convey the idea that, although we are between chains, there is always space to look beyond, towards something new or unknown.
The repetition of the heads creates a kind of unity, as if this experience of being trapped is shared by all, yet each figure experiences it uniquely. It is a work that seeks to question barriers and explore what it means to be "between chains," both physically and mentally.
