This captivating oil painting portrays the dramatic moment of a volcanic eruption in the middle of the ocean. With skilful brushstrokes and an expressive colour palette, a scene of elemental power and natural beauty has been created. In the centre of the painting, a dark, rocky volcanic island rises out of the deep blue sea. A mighty column of smoke billows from the volcano's crater, spreading out into an extensive cloud formation in the sky. The composition is dominated by horizontal lines - the horizon, the cloud bank and the surface of the sea divide the picture into clear zones. This structure is broken by the vertical line of rising smoke, emphasising the explosive nature of the event depicted. The waves rippling around the island have fine turquoise-coloured highlights, adding depth and movement to the water.
Born 1967 in Zurich, Switzerland, first exhibition 2003, in 2006 I began to paint oil colour on velvet. I like to play with the structure from the velvet. There is a special effect on the painting with velvet.
