Pese a ser una ermita relativamente moderna, construida en 1945, tiene su historia, porque aquí se reunía la cofradía de Arriaga, integrada por los señores rurales, en defensa de sus privilegios.
Está situada en el centro de uno de los parque más grandes de la ciudad, el parque de Arriaga, y sus puertas sólo se abren en ocasiones especiales; por ejemplo, en la noche más corta del año (San Juan) o recepciones oficiales.
