Ziryab (Mosul, califato abasí). Fue un poeta, músico y cantante musulman. Estableció uno de los primeros conservatorios de música en el mundo.
Se dice que introdujo el laud árabe y añadió una quinta cuerda.
El cuadro representa la evolución desde el laud, pasando por el kanun, hasta la guitarra flamenca.
