Esta obra fue concebida para ser expuesta en el marco de la Exposición de ´´Especies Endémicas Dominicanas´´ en la casa de Cultura de la Provincia Puerto Plata, Rep. Dom.

De las 18 especies de zumbadores caribeños, tres son residentes de La Española.

Estas incluyen a nuestro zumbador esmeralda, una “joya con tornasoles,” ligeramente menor que el zumbador grande (Anthracothorax dominicus) pero bastante mayor que el diminuto zumbadorcito (Mellisuga minima). Como en muchas aves, el plumaje del macho es más llamativo que el de la hembra.
