Sculpture in mixed media, An exotic or alien craft, imagined from descriptions of the legendary Utsuru-bune (Hollow Ship) which allegedly washed up on the East coast of Japan, in 1803.
This is a totally unique piece as every part is unique in its own but the viewer will see a new interpretation of each piece put together by the artist.
I created these sculptures by using broken or otherwise discarded objects, to give them new or continued life by reworking them as works of art. using Kintsukuroi, to not only repair, but also to celebrate the initial damage with golden emphasis. My work was inspired by knowledge of this art, and a desire to preserve the past, like most of my figurative work.
