El retratado consiguió conjuntamente con Ferid Murad y Robert Furchgott Premio Nobel de Medicina de 1998. Descubrieron cómo funciona el óxido nítrico en el organismo, la primera hormona gaseosa producida por el endotelio capaz de mediar la vasodilatación arterial. (Descubridores de la viagra). The portrayed got together with Robert Furchgott and Ferid Murad Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1998.
