En la edad media hubo un considerable tráfico de estos halcones desde el norte de Europa hacia zonas templadas, y aunque muchos morían otros terminaron aclimatandose. Estos eran muy apreciados dado que por su tamaño de casi un tercio mas grande que los Peregrinos eran capaces de atrapar presas tan grande como Garzas y Grullas.
