el istmo de Tehuantepec es una región de Oaxaca y Chiapas formada por varias poblaciones como: Juchitán, Tehuantepec, San Blas Atempa, Salina Cruz, Ixtepec, Tuxtepec, San Mateo del Mar, Santa Maria Xadani, etc.. El traje de tehuana presenta ligeras variaciones según el lugar. aunque el traje de gala es bordado en satín o terciopelo, la vestimenta diaria es un huipil con bordado sencillo y falda sin bordado o un bordado sencillo. Existen diferentes tipos de bordados lo que hace que el traje de gala sea variado y diferente uno de otro. No hay trajes iguales.
