Uno de los ejercicios del rito de paso de los sufís, seguramente el más terrible, era la contemplación de la propia imagen frente al espejo. Los filósofos, tienen el espejo como símbolo de la verdad. Salomón vence a sus enemigos, puliendo los escudos de metal de sus guerreros para que los rayos del sol reflejasen la luz hacia las hordas enemigas. Medusa es vencida por Perseo con escudo espejado.
