Se remonta a comienzos del Pleistóceno. En el trancurso del tiempo han sido muchas las vicisitudes por las que ha pasado debido a los procesos naturales y sobre todo a la mano del hombre. Hoy en dia la Albufera tiene una forma irregular relativamente redonda de unos 6 Km. ante los 3oKm. de antaño.
