Gilbert graduated from the University of Puerto Rico in 1983 with a degree in secondary education majoring in visual arts, being trained by some of the most recognized artists in Puerto Rico, such as Susan Smith in drawing and printmaking (lithography, linoleum, tip dry, etc..), John Balossi in sculpture and commercial art, painting Lope Max Diaz, Rafael Rivera Garcia in drawing and painting (mural), María Emilia Somoza in printmaking and art education, Edwin Mauras in design for art...
