Artwork description

Pintura a Pastel sobre papel Canson por Jim Barber Hove. 20 x 28 cm (8?x11?)
Me divertía verlas volar.

Dandelions
When I was a young boy, my father loved to keep the home lawn in the best of shape. As his son, it was my job to cut the grass once every two weeks and at the same time pull out the weeds. Of all the ferocious weeds in the yard the most resistant to my murderous intentions was the humble Dandelion. It seemed like the more I pulled them out the more they grew. Very much to the disgruntlement of my father, there were times when our lawn looked like a crazy pattern of yellow polka dots spread all over the grass. On one occasion my dad purchased a special garden tool for the exclusive purpose of exterminating these malicious plants. We called it the ?Dandy Digger? but it didn?t do any good and the yellow terror kept on flourishing. Secretly I must admit that I sometimes committed the horrible heresy of thinking that these little daisies were pretty. I liked to blow on the little puff balls of seeds to let the wind carry them away all over the place. I liked to see them fly.
Doing this painting brought back wonderful memories of my youth. I painted it thinking that sometimes even our worst enemies, with the correct mutual dosage of the feeling of ?live and let live?, can learn to become friends forever.

Artist information

Since I can remember I have had an urge to express myself artistically. As a young student, I was interested in sports, singing and theater. In my years at West Bend High School, I was selected to sing in the school choir, to play trumpet in the school band and to act in the school musical productions.
