Artwork description

Situada en la Fortaleza La Mota (Alcalá La Real). Fué la principal vía de acceso a La Mota jalonada con torres. Esta puerta fue construída en tiempos de Yusuf I (1333-1354). Su nombre se debe a una escultura de Santa María, que estuvo colocada en su interior.
Sobre la Puerta se alza la Torre de la Imagen, en la que, a principios del s.XVI, se instaló provisionalmente la Chancillería de Granada a causa de las epidemias de peste.
