The Emerald Hummingbirds are small birds capable of hovering in mid-air due to the rapid flapping of their wings. They are the only birds that can fly backwards. There are 337 species worldwide and 4 species which occur in the Dominican Republic: the Chlorostilbon Swainsonii, Hispaniolan Emerald Hummingbird, Zumbador Esmeralda of the Española, is one of these.
Los colibríes esmeralda son pequeños pájaros capaces de quedarse suspendidos en el aire debido al aleteo rápido de sus alas. Son los únicos pájaros que pueden volar al revés. Hay 337 especies por todo el mundo y 4 especies que se encuentran el la Rep. Dominicana: el Chlorostilbon Swainsonii, Hispaniolan Emerald Hummingbird y el Zumbador Esmeralda of the Española, es uno de estos.
