Pájaro nacional de El Salvador, Guardabarranco en Nicaragua

El momoto ceja turquesa (Eumomota superciliosa) es una especie de ave coraciiforme de la familia Momotidae. Habita en Centroamérica desde la Península de Yucatán hasta Costa Rica. Es común y no se considera amenazado de extinción.

Esta hermosa ave de singular belleza y policromo plumaje es tradicionalmente reconocida desde los años 80 como el ave nacional de Nicaragua donde se le llama "guardabarranco", pero ningún decreto legislativo o ejecutivo lo ha oficializado como tal, a pesar de que los libros de texto oficiales así lo mencionan. En El Salvador se le conoce como "torogoz" y también es su ave nacional, declarada así por la Asamblea Legislativa el 21 de octubre de 1999.
