En agosto y septiembre del año 1989, en Guatemala, fueron vilmente secuestrados 10 estudiantes universitarios, 5 fueron asesinados extrajudicialmente. Los otros 5 se encuentran desaparecidos y jamás se ha sabido de ellos hasta la fecha. Esto sucedió cuando ya se creía que en el Gobierno de la apertura democrática del Lic. Vinicio Cerezo, ya no existiría ninguna clase de represión para los estudiantes de la Universidad de San Carlos, pero lamentablemente, no se puede asegurar que en este pais aun se respire seguridad y paz.
