El mar de Galilea ha recibido diferentes nombres, de acuerdo a su forma de violín = Kineret, ya que es un ensanchamiento del rio Jordán y luego el rio se vuelve a encauzar hasta desembocar al Mar Muerto. Tiene también el nombre de Generesaret = Jardín de riqueza, es el único mar en el que todo el año hay gran variedad de peces y esto permite la calidad del agua. El mar de Galilea y el rio Jordán son de agua dulce y el Mar Muerto extremadamente salado. En la orillas del mar de Galilea, aun existen restos de hechos históricos de esa región.
