Desde finales del siglo XII hasta la segunda mitad del XIX, los samuráis gobernaron Japón. La mayoría de los etimologístas e historiadores afirman que la palabra significa "los que sirven", pero la realidad fue bien distinta, lo que al principio fue ministrar, se convierte con el tiempo en administrar, sólo una sílaba es suficiente para cambiar el objetivo de lo que es gobernar: servicio al pueblo y no la tiranía.
