Artwork description

La Basílica de Santa María del Mar se empezó a construir en 1329. Su primera piedra se colocó en conmemoración de la conquista de Cerdeña por el Reino de Aragón. Es uno de los mejores ejemplos del llamado gótico catalán.
Está situada en el Barrio de la Ribera. Tiene un exterior austero y la arquitectura de masa es muy simple, sin arbotantes y con grandes contrafuentes. Es una iglesia paradigmática de nave única con bóvedas de crucería, numerosas ventanas y columnas.
